The "Pop Image" exhibition is not only a review of the main works created by Pop Art master Andy Warhol from 1962 to 1987, but also an opportunity to reflect and examine the current cultural situation in which we live.

For us, "Pop Art" is no longer just an art movement that emerged in the 1960s in the West, but a reflection of the world's entry into a post-industrial consumer society. In the face of aimless data, overwhelming images, ever-expanding desire to become famous, and mass culture that is infinitely consumed, our understanding of the society in which we live and thinking about our own value are particularly important today.

On December 31, 2020, "Pop Image-Andy Warhol's 1962-1987" officially opened at Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum. This exhibition showcased Andy Warhol’s most symbolic creations through 72 works—reflecting the times and the taste of popular art through portrait works; presenting the different aspects of consumer society and contemporary life through the “Still Life” series of works; The rich photography, posters and video works show the great creativity and influence of Andy Warhol in many fields such as art, advertising and design.

We spend most of our lives watching, not observing

To understand Andy Warhol, one has to mention the portrait creation throughout his entire artistic career: his works include not only politicians, historical figures, movie stars, musicians, but also anonymous individuals. From the 1970 "Marilyn" series exhibited this time, we can strongly feel Andy Warhol's attention to celebrities and commercials. The unfortunate sexy Hollywood movie stars showed a vague smile under the screen printing. The simple, neat and monotonous portraits of Monroe reflect the helpless emptiness and confusion of people in the modern commercial society. In the Marilyn Monroe series, the proliferation of photos of the movie star Marilyn Monroe symbolizes the interest of American society. Warhol used this technique to illustrate that this kind of public interest is being produced in large quantities, just like his work, until you get bored.
